Scott Segelbaum, while in Los Angeles, started the Rock Art Show in 1992 with KLSX Radio. The one-week show was held at the Directors Guild Building on Sunset Boulevard. During its five year run, the show was attended by many high profile rock and rollers including: Elton John, Brian Wilson, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, Brian Setzer, Graham Nash, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Jon Anderson, Robbie Krieger and many others. During this time Scott made a lot of close contacts with musicians and their art. Scott was also hired as a consultant for the book, “Musicians as Artists” (Journey Editions, 1994). The Rock Art Show was a tremendous success on all levels. The show was featured on CNN, Entertainment Tonight, E!, as well as all local Los Angeles TV and newspapers. The event raised a lot of money for charity and a lot of money for the radio station through sponsorships. This promotion especially tapped into non-traditional revenue and non-spot revenue streams. The Rock Art Show was also honored at the 1994 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention with an award as the “Best of the Best” Public Service Promotions.
- In 1999, Scott brought the Rock Art Show to Philadelphia with WMGK Radio. The annual show has proven to be a tremendous success in Philadelphia too. Radio station revenue for the event is consistently in the six figures. The show also generates a great deal of press attention as well as raising money for charity. The Rock Art Show was awarded with an Achievement in Radio (AIR) Award in 2001 as the “Best Radio Sponsored Community Event of the Year.”
- In 2004, Scott Segelbaum is putting on tour for radio stations a traveling version of the award winning Rock Art Show. The show will feature approximately 150 pieces of art including handwritten song lyrics, limited edition lithographs, album cover art, animation cels, original drawings and paintings and incredible photographs taken by legendary rock photographers. All pieces will be available to purchase with a percentage of the net profits of artwork sales going to a charity of the radio station’s choosing.
